A Sneak Peek of The Courting of Kingdoms

Are you dying to learn more about The Courting of Kingdoms? I have some snippets to share!

On Instagram, I had readers submit a number from 1-20, to see previews of the finalized chapters so far. The below snapshots are direct from my writing program and shared on IG, so they will vary from the final version in the published book.

When you preorder the book, submit your proof of purchase to receive a character art print! The Courting of Kingdoms is tentatively publishing at the end of the year, but it's possible it may be delayed until Q1 2025. Once I know for sure and am in edits, I'll let you know!

Click through the slideshow below to read excerpts of the early version of The Courting of Kingdoms. These are not final versions, but give you hints of what is to come.

Tropes and themes in The Courting of Kingdoms by R. K. Sampson include:

  • Romantasy

  • Love triangle

  • Brother love interests

  • Competition (inspired by The Selection by Kiera Cass and The Bachelor)

  • Royal intrigue and politics, especially between the heir and the spare dynamic

  • Good vs evil

  • Immortality and curses

  • Friends to lovers

About The Courting of Kingdoms, note that the blurb has changed since its original reveal and may change a bit still (me in editing is staring at this and thinking something is still not quite right):

In this Lightlark meets The Selection romantasy, twenty women compete to break the curse, win the prince, and save their kingdom.

Riversend is plagued by a twisted immortality—the dead remain conscious, their souls slowly corrupting until they become their violent mirror selves.

But a prophecy offers one last chance to end the curse and the rival dead before it becomes permanent. The key lies in Prince Reignold, second in line to the throne, and the woman who holds his heart.

To fulfill the prophecy, the crown summons twenty women who fit the its criteria to vie for the prince's hand. Among them is Madeline, who quickly finds herself entangled in a dangerous love triangle between the heir and the spare.

As the competition intensifies, Madeline must choose between her heart and her duty, unravel the secrets of the prophecy, and confront the terrifying truth that her heart may damn them all...
